Delhi Excise Policy Case: Delhi HC dismisses CM Arvind Kejriwal’s plea against arrest by CBI

Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest and remand by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Delhi excise policy case. Last month Delhi court extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody in the excise policy case until August 8. The AAP leader appeared via video conference from Tihar Jail.

The Delhi High Court dismissed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest and remand by the CBI in the excise policy case. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna said, “it cannot be said that the arrest was without any justiciable reasons or illegal”.

The CBI arrested Kejriwal on June 23 in connection with the excise policy scam and requested five days of custody.

Rouse Avenue court’s special Judge Kaveri Baweja ordered the extension of Kejriwal’s judicial custody in the case by the CBI until August 8. Kejriwal has been in prison since April 1 over the excise policy linked money laundering case. The Supreme Court has granted him interim bail for 21 days to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections and he returned to prison on June 2.

Delhi Chief Minister had approached the Delhi High Court stating that Kejriwal is the national convenor of the national political party and the sitting chief minister of Delhi who is being malafide and extraneous considerations is knocking at the doors of Delhi High Court seeking regular bail.
